The Caipirinha cocktail is a very polarising cocktail because it uses a rough spirit called cachaça rum. Some people love it, others hate it, so be sure to check your guest knows what they're getting into before they order one!

Serve in an Old-Fashioned glass

  • 4-6 lime wedges
  • 2 shots cachaça rum
  • 1 large bar spoon of granulated sugar

Garnish: No garnish.

How to Make

  1. Muddle the limes & sugar in an old-fashioned glass
  2. Add crushed ice & cachaça
  3. Stir thoroughly
  4. Crown with crushed ice


A muddled cocktail originating in Brazil and naturally uses Brazil’s national spirit, cachaça rum – a rough type of rum that very polarising.  If your guest isn’t a fan of cachaça rum, make them the more approachable Caiprioska cocktail instead.

Caipirinha Cocktail Variations

You can use 2/3 shot of simple syrup instead of the granulated sugar. White granulated sugar works better than brown granulated sugar, but feel free to experiment.
