The mission of The Ocean Cleanup is to develop advanced technologies to rid the world’s oceans of plastic. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting and helping to structure the workload of our Founder & CEO, Boyan Slat.


As the Personal Assistant, you will provide comprehensive assistance to Boyan, enabling him to focus on his primary responsibilities and maximize his time and efficacy. This is an exciting opportunity to support Boyan in leading our crew and the development of our technology to achieve our mission of ridding the world’s oceans of plastic. 

Among other duties, you will be responsible for completing a broad variety of administrative tasks of a personal and professional nature, including:

  • Complex planning and scheduling of meetings and teleconferences across different time zones and accompanying or standing in for the CEO in meetings, travel, and other (external) events when needed
  • Supporting the CEO with time management, setting personal priorities, managing agendas for internal and external engagements, and perfecting presentations
  • Monitoring email inboxes, flagging topics for the CEO's attention, communicating on behalf of the CEO, and ensuring actions are completed on time
  • Coordinating complex worldwide travel arrangements for the CEO, organizing events and handling expenses
  • Acting as a sounding board for the CEO
  • Providing admin and scheduling support to the Supervisory Board and for Supervisory Board meetings
  • Supporting the CEO in upholding the internal culture of the organization
  • Coordinating the CEO’s speaking engagements, overseen by the Brand Activation Manager
  • Handling CEO relationship management processes and communications to broaden and strengthen the CEO's network, along with CRM input and editing
  • Remote assistance in all time zones with 24/7 availability
  • Backup role for the Executive Assistant to the Managing Director and for the Office Manager


  • Proven background in business administration or communications is preferred
  • 8 years of experience supporting at an executive level in a highly professional international environment
  • Experience with time management and ability to identify areas to relieve work from the CEO
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Experience with Salesforce CRM software is a plus
  • Experience successfully creating and/or modifying processes
  • Near-native English. Dutch is a plus, not a must
  • Experience working with UHNWIs, public figures, government officials, and the press is a plus

  • Has a curiosity for how things work and for technology, and is in tune with the start-up/scale-up mentality of The Ocean Cleanup
  • Most importantly - enjoys a good (and sometimes bad) pun every now and then.
